What kind of car do you convert?

We are currently only converting the production model Saturn Sky -- model years 2007 through 2010. We are not converting Pontiac Solstices yet. We hope to do that in the near future, but are not ready to do it now. You can can purcahse a new or used vehcile and it can be driven until we are ready to convert it. So if you want to buy it today and drive it and convert it three months from now, that's okay.

What kind of batteries are you using and how long will they last?

The specific supplier of the battery is confidential as we are negotiating bulk purchase discounts. We use non-explosive, new technology lithium batteries in our Saturn Sky conversion. We warrant the batteries for 3 years or 36,000 miles whichever comes first, however, we expect that the batteries will retain nearly 80% of their capacity for up to 100,000 miles.

Is there a warranty on the AMP?

Advanced Mechanical Products, Inc. will warrant the batteries, drive motors, and conversion components for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. We are in discussions with Saturn on warranting the components of the Sky that are not affected by the conversion process.

Specific warranty information is included in the Terms and Conditions of Sale document that will be to, and must be signed by, all individuals before any payment will be accepted. Advanced Mechanical Products, Inc. will not accept money from any purchaser prior to finalization of the warranty details on the non-converted components.

What kind of motors are you using, how many, how long will they last and where are they located?

The motors have been custom designed to allow the stated acceleration, top speed, and range metrics without a transmission. We cannot reveal the type of motor due to our on-going patenting process, however, we can say that they are brushless DC motors. The converted car will have two motors, one driving each rear wheel. Both have 3 years or 36,000 miles warranty whichever comes first.

Will you convert other types of cars in the Future?

After the initial signature production run of 300 AMP roadsters, we anticipate converting another Saturn model. We are considering a 4-door sedan or mini-SUV. First and foremost at this time however, is the completion of the 300 Signature AMP roadsters.

How long does the car take to charge and what kind of power do you need to charge it?

We are negotiating with Duke Energy to have them install a wireless metering device in the garage of each purchaser which will divert the charging to off-peak periods thus reducing the cost of the electricity. Charging from a 220-volt outlet will take about 3.5 hours for fully discharged battery packs. On a typical day of driving 40 miles, charging should take about 1.5 hours.

When will you have distributors in other parts of the country?

We have been contacted by potential distributors in various parts of the world. At this time however, we are focusing on our current business model and don't want to deviate from that plan. After we have accomplished the sizable task of completing 300 conversions for customers in and around Cincinnati, Ohio, we will consider a broader distribution model.

Can you buy the Sky from Saturn without the internal combustion components in order to reduce the cost? What happens to the parts you remove during conversion?

We have contacted our Saturn dealer to try to get the Sky without internal combustion components and have not been successful in that negotiation to date. The internal combustion components that are removed from the Sky during conversion become property of Advanced Mechanical Products, Inc.

What weight difference is there in the converted car?

We have weighed each component as it was removed from the vehicle and recorded how that component affected the weight of the vehicle at each wheel. The batteries and motors will be positioned in the converted vehicle in such a way that the total weight of the vehicle and its handling characteristics will be similar to the original Sky.

How long do you expect the battery packs to last?

Our battery packs are warranted for 36 months or 36,000 miles whichever comes first. Individual cells can be replaced on an as-needed basis without replacing the entire battery pack. We expect the battery packs to retain 80% of their capacity up to 100,000 miles.

Can I drive The AMP prior to purchasing?

Our launch event will take place later this year. We will entertain visitors and allow Signature Series buyers to test drive vehicles at the event.
